About VERTEX Engineering

VERTEX Engineering is a multidisciplinary consulting firm founded by
Dr. Alaa Al Hawarneh, PhD, P.Eng., PMP.
We deliver smart, cost-effective, and constructible solutions across structural, geotechnical,
and civil engineering. Structural engineering is our core department. We design new buildings,
assess and certify existing ones, execute renovations and change-of-use, deliver strengthening
and rehabilitation (including FRP), provide value engineering, and carry out seismic/advanced
analysis when needed.

Leadership

VERTEX is led by Dr. Alaa Al Hawarneh, PhD, P.Eng., PMP — a structural engineer
with over 12 years of practice in B.C. and Dubai and a portfolio spanning hundreds of projects
across Canada and the Middle East. Before founding VERTEX, he was the Head of the Structural Department
at a mid-size consulting company in B.C., and previously held senior roles at leading firms in the UAE
and Canada. Dr. Alaa holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia in seismic design of structures,
and professional credentials including PMP, LEED, Six Sigma Black Belt, alongside various
industry and academic recognitions.

Technical Advisor

We are supported by Saqib Khan, P.Eng., S.E., our Technical Advisor and primary expert
consultant. With 25 years in structural/bridge engineering, Saqib is a recognized figure in Canada’s
bridge industry. He leads two engineering firms and serves on the Canadian Bridge Code Seismic Design
Subcommittee for seismic design. His senior review and specialized input strengthen our delivery on
complex, performance-critical projects.
